Midsummer Magick; Feast of the Faeries

Merry Meet my dear friends on this beautiful Midsummer morning! Welcome the longest day of the year, the warm suns embrace and celebrate the Feast of the Faeries!

Midsummer, Litha, Summer Solstice, is a very special day where the veil between our world and Faery is thinnest, and their power is strongest. It is this day along with Samhain and Beltaine where we are able to more easily commune and work our magick alongside the Fae.

Upon waking this morning with the Sun, libations of milk, honey and lilac flowers where offered to the Good Folk with a blessing that they be forever honored and never forgotten. Fresh flowers adorn and fragrance the indoor and outdoor altar in shades of purple, pink and dark green. The Faery Hearth candle in the center is lit and this evening I will make a Summer Solstice Faery Cake for which they will receive their share first upon the altar. A bonfire will be made outdoors under the stars for which we will offer herbs and flowers and invite the faeries to sing and dance around the fire. Today is all about the communion and connection between our world and theirs. It is one of the most powerful days for gathering the most potent herbs and one of the most powerful evenings for performing magick.

This is a time to reflect upon the seeds you have planted and rid yourself of what is no longer serving your highest purpose. Take a walk in nature today and commune with our Earth Mother and all of her inhabitants to include the Otherworld beings. Be sure to bring a pouch of offering herbs such as Thyme, Lavender or Violets and crystals such as Amethyst, Rose Quartz or Green Aventurine to offer to the Tree Spirits, wells or bodies of water, you may come across.  Put down the cell phones and get off the computers to go play outside, connect with your inner child and the faeries by purchasing a bottle of bubbles, lay on the grass and try to find images in the clouds like you did when you were a small child, laugh and connect with friends and family.

Here is my Summer Solstice Faery Cake recipe that I have used the last few years to share with friends, family and of course the Fae.

Summer Solstice Faery Cake:

1 Cup Kerry Gold Butter

2 Cups Sugar

1 tsp Vanilla

3 Cups flour

1 tsp baking soda

4 eggs

1 tsp salt

1 cup buttermilk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat together the butter and sugar until nice and fluffy. Beat in the vanilla and add eggs one at a time. In a separate bowl combine the flour, salt and baking soda. Add that to the batter switching between the flour mix and the buttermilk, ending with the flour mix. Blend well.

Fold in rainbow colored sprinkles or organic lavender buds as an offering to the Good Folk.

Pour the batter into a pan, I use a loaf pan, and bake for 1.5 hours or until the toothpick comes out clean from the center. Allow the pan to cool for a while and then remove from pan and place on baking rack for cooling.

Adorn with powdered sugar and fresh flowers. (remove flowers before serving unless they are edible!) It is customary to offer the first piece to the Faeries.

Many Faery Blessings to each of you,

Joanna
